A day after Rwanda’s other representative La Colombiere School suffered a 1-2 loss to defending champions Kitende; Essie Gisenyi staged a solid performance to win their opening game.

Ismail Mugabo and Ramadhan Ndayisenga scored to earn victory for the Rwanda school while Musa Kassim Kintu scored the consolation goal for the Kampala-based school.

In the girls’ football, Remera Rukoma thrashed Burundi’s Don de Dieu 6-1.

Action continues today with La Colombiere hoping for maximum points against Kenya’s Mumias as Essi Gisenyi takes on another Kenyan team Tononoka.

The matches will be played at Kakyeka stadium mainly, but the grounds of Ntare School, Mbarara High and St Josephs Vocational are also being used for other tournament matches.
