MTN dishes out Rwf 9 million for “Faranga Yello Yello” contest

MTN has given out its first payments for its latest contest dubbed “Faranga Yello Yello”, promising that the cash is set to boost its clients’ livelihoods, the firm’s Brand and Sponsorship manage,r Sakyi OPoku, said yesterday. The latest move by MTN is bound to trigger stiffer competition from its rival operator Tigo. While announcing the winners, MTN said that it is committed to the growth of its customers through such offers.

MTN has given out its first payments for its latest contest dubbed "Faranga Yello Yello”, promising that the cash is set to boost its clients’ livelihoods, the firm’s Brand and Sponsorship manage,r Sakyi OPoku, said yesterday.

The latest move by MTN is bound to trigger stiffer competition from its rival operator Tigo. While announcing the winners, MTN said that it is committed to the growth of its customers through such offers.

"You can only do well in business when your clients are happy and this is part of our marketing strategy” he said during the first draw of the contest held at the firm’s head offices in Nyarutarama yesterday.

 The promotion worth Rwf 63m which saw nine people win Rwf 1 m each will run for five weeks with 12 winners announced each week. A grand draw would take place thereafter where the overall winner who will walk away with Rwf13 million.

Sakyi said that the entry to the draw which requires one to load airtime of worth Rwf 200 only is aimed at recognising the tremendous contribution customers have made towards the operator’s success.

Rwanda has only two mobile operators, Tigo and MTN, after Rwandatel was striped off its GSM license late this year by the regulator Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA).

"We are rewarding our customers for loyalty”, the Chief Marketing Officer,  Yvonne Makolo said, adding that the draws will be held every Tuesday.

"I am going to invest in a motorcycle taxi business in order to make sure that I get profit from the money I have just won that will in turn ensure the stability of my children in the coming days”, Karitanyi Kamili 57, a driver in Kigali said, adding that he was privileged to win Rwf 1 million after loading Rwf 200 recently.
