MUHANGA - A nun at Kabgayi Diocese identified as Redempta Dusabimana, 34, collapsed after her vehicle hit and killed an elderly man.
The nun was driving a Mitsubishi Pajero, Reg.No. RAA 683H from Kigali when she hit , Emmanuel Twagirimana,58, who died instantly.
The accident happed last Friday at Kyakabiri, Shyogwe sector on the Muhanga-Butare highway.
Eyewitnesses said that the nun collapsed at the spot after seeing the body lying besides the vehicle. The car keys were lost in the process; however the victim’s body was transferred to Kabgayi Hospital.
An eyewitness, Rose Mukakabera, said that the victim was coming from his carpentry workshop. "The Pajero hit him so hard; the body flew in the air, before it fell back on the vehicle’s bonnet. The accident happened so fast but I think the nun was absent-minded when the accident happened,” Mukakabera said.
Area Police said that the nun is still hospitalised after sustaining a broken left leg following the injury coupled with trauma.
They added that she would be interrogated at the Nyamabuye Police Station later when she regains consciousness.
