GATSIBO- Residents of Ngarama Cell in Gatsibo District are calling on local authorities to curb the rising cases of robbery in the area.

According to residents, groups of unknown people break into shops and steal goods at night.

"My neighbour’s wholesale shop was broken into and a number of items stolen. This issue is intensely increasing,” said one of the residents.

Others said livestock theft is also on the rise.

"They even steal cows, goats and pigs. Local authorities should work closely with security organs to curb this,” said Alex Habimana, a local farmer.

Zachariah Habiyaremye, Ngarama Cell Executive Secretary, acknowledged the problem saying that they are looking into ways of addressing it.

Security cooperatives, Habiyaremye explained, have been created to carry out night patrols along with theresidents.

He appealed to the residents to always report suspicious activities in the area.
