AMAVUBI Stars continued to drop further down the ranking, dropping from 134 to 138 in the latest Fifa/Coca cola rankings released yesterday.

Rwanda is fifth ranked in the region behind leaders Uganda who dropped one place to 80th, Sudan (98), Tanzania (125) and Kenya (133) respectively.

On the continent, Rwanda is placed 36 behind rivals group H Côte d’Iviore, who maintained their grip at the top of the continental rankings.

Amavubi face the Elephants in the 2012 Nations Cup penultimate qualifying match on September 3 in in Kigali. The Elephants have already clinched their ticket to next year’s Equatorial/Gabon finals after winning all four of their group matches.

Both Egypt and Ghana remain unmoved on the Fifa rankings. They are ranked 34 and 36 behind Côte d’Ivoire who slipped to 15th position in the world.

Meanwhile, Netherlands ended Spain’s reign of more than a year at the summit, claiming top spot for the first time ever at the leadership of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankin.

The Oranje profited from Spain’s defeat by Italy in a friendly that cost the world and European champions valuable points to become only the seventh team (after Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) to sit atop the global ladder.
