TZ military delegation visits Rubavu

RUBAVU - The Tanzanian military delegation led by Gen. Davies Mwamunyange, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces, yesterday, visited key military installations in Rubavu District, including the marine regiment.

The tour of Rubavu is part of the seven-day official visit by Gen. Mwamunyange on the invitation of his Rwandan counterpart, Lt Gen. Charles Kayonga.

"The visit to key military installations is to see how Rwanda Defence Forces operates on a daily basis,” the RDF spokesperson, Col. Joseph Nzabamwita said.

At the marine regiment, the head of the regiment, Lt.Col. Theodore Bahizi, explained their responsibilities that include fighting smuggling and protecting aquatic life.

The marine regiment has branches in Karongi and Rusizi Districts on Lake Kivu as well as on inland lakes including lakes Muhazi and Nasho.

Besides the military facilities, the team visited the methane gas plant in Rubavu and the two border posts connecting to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

"The visit cements the cooperation between the forces of the two countries especially in the joint military exercises and training,” Nzabamwita added.

"When there is military cooperation, we are certain of peace and the dividends of stability are consumed by the citizens.”
