Geneva – The newly appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the United Nations and International Organisations in Geneva, Solina Nyirahabimana, Tuesday presented her credentials to Pascal LAMY, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva.

During the ceremony, Nyirahabimana briefed the WTO Director General about the current trade and investment situation in Rwanda and in the East African Community and emphasised that Rwanda strongly supports the rules-based multilateral trading system.

She further appreciated Lamy's leadership and tireless efforts during the ongoing process of the WTO Doha Development Agenda.
 
Nyirahabimana commended the valuable and continued collaboration between the WTO and the Government institutions, especially the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Permanent Mission of Rwanda in Geneva.

She assured the Director General of the WTO in Geneva of her readiness and commitment to work to further strengthen the cooperation between the WTO and Rwanda, for the benefit of the people of the world, the continent, the East African Community and of Rwanda in particular.

The Director General of the WTO welcomed the commendable efforts of the government to improve the socio-economic development, the safety and security as well as the visibility of the country.

Lamy said that Rwanda, as top reformer, has become a tourist and investor destination.  He also expressed his high esteem for the vision and the leadership of President Paul Kagame.
 
The Director General of the WTO pledged to continue working to strengthen mutual support between Rwanda and the WTO in various areas according to the WTO mission and objectives.

Lamy said that he expects a high level participation of Rwanda at the forthcoming eighth session of the WTO Ministerial Conference scheduled to take place from December 15-17 2011 in Geneva and looks forward to working together with Ambassador Nyirahabimana from whom he expects a lot of contribution, given her experience in Government.
