Hit-and-run victim found on Butare-Muhanga highway

MUHANGA- Police in Muhanga are investigating the cause of death of a man identified as Zelphine Niyonsaba, whose body was found in Rugeramigozi, on the Butare-Muhanga highway.The death of Niyosaba, a 30 year old motorcycle taxi operator in Gitarama town, is believed to have been caused by a car on the night of August 19, as he rode his motorcycle.

MUHANGA- Police in Muhanga are investigating the cause of death of a man identified as Zelphine Niyonsaba, whose body was found in Rugeramigozi, on the Butare-Muhanga highway.

The death of Niyosaba, a 30 year old motorcycle taxi operator in Gitarama town, is believed to have been caused by a car on the night of August 19, as he rode his motorcycle.

Local residents discovered his body at 7 AM the following morning and alerted security officials in the area. The police transferred the body to Kabagyi hospital for a postmortem examination.

Some residents who spoke to The New Times said that Niyonsaba’s body had deep cuts alleging that the victim may have been murdered by unknown assailants.

"We found the body lying on the side of the road and carried it off but it was in bad shape. It looks like someone stubbed the victim,” one residents claimed.

The residents took the damaged motorcycle to the police station.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the death after fresh accident marks found on his vehicle at a garage.

Police spokesman, Theos Badege said; "police is investigating the case and we are working with the family of the victim to identify any suspects in case someone had motives to kill the victim.

The autopsy report will also be produced and the cause of the death will be made clear.”
