Editor,

This letter is with reference to the interesting opinion by James Munyaneza, the 1st Vice President of Rwanda Journalists Association, which appeared in yesterday’s issue of The New Times, titled : " Why leaders of the world’s largest journalists body will be descending on Kigali this week.”

For sure, Rwanda’s time has come and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) needs to be applauded for deciding to converge in Kigali and explore ways of empowering African women journalists.

The New Rwanda is waiting and is ready to show the world what this great nation has to offer and that the false propaganda spread by a section of journalists with vested and biased interests, will not deter an august body like the IFJ from choosing Rwanda for its maiden conference on gender equality in the media industry.

Rwanda’s Parliament is dominated by women with a 54 percent share of the total seats. Women are also making their mark in both Rwanda’s public and private sectors.

In fact , many young women are coming out and shining with start ups like Hehe Ltd. , Shaking Sun and Beauty of Rwanda, to name a few.

Wishing the Rwanda Journalists Association, hosts for this prestigious International Conference every success in bringing the top brass from the world of journalism to Rwanda -  this beautiful land of a thousand hills and of a million smiles !
