RUBAVU - Rwandair has announced daily flights to Rubavu to cater for the increasing number of passengers.

The flights were previously four times a week - Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

"The demand for our service has increased, thus the need to operate every day,” said Ornella Kayitesi, Rubavu Station Manager.

Although no specific figure of passengers was given, Kayitesi said the number has more than doubled, mostly involving Congolese nationals.

"Most travellers are Congolese who have connections to other destinations such as Dubai, Nairobi and South Africa, among others, but the most preferred destination is Dubai,” Kayitesi added.

With more businesses starting up in Rubavu, it is expected that the flight would contribute to the larger national agenda to boost trade, investment and movement of people within the region.

The Rubavu route is the third Rwandair destination this year following the launch of the Brazzaville (Republic of Congo) and Libreville (Gabon) routes.

Rwandair is seeking partnerships with Congolese travel agencies to attract more travellers. The return twenty minute flight costs Rwf 60,000 (approx.US$100 )
