RwandAir, the national carrier, last week signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Turkish Airlines , allowing both airlines to boost both their individual operating capacities along the routes both airlines intend to pursue jointly. The pact means that both airlines will closely cooperate on Schedule Synchronisation, Code Sharing, Technical Support and Training.

The partnership was signed in Turkey by RwandAir Chief Executive Officer, John Mirenge, and Temel Kotil Chief Executive Officer & President of Turkish Airlines at the conclusion of a two-day visit by a senior RwandAir/Rwanda government delegation headed by the Rwandan Minister for Transport & Infrastructure, Hon Alexis Nzahabwanimana.

Under the agreement, the two airlines will offer passengers from Kigali and RwandAir network seamless travel to Europe and North America, and vice versa, on the same ticket.

"On a single ticket, passengers will be able to check through their luggage to the destination of their choice on the RwandAir & Turkish Airlines networks”, Mirenge noted. Adding that the national carrier stands to benefit from access to Turkish Airlines sales and distribution network and the large market of visiting friends and relatives who travel to East Africa annually from Europe and North America.

The minister said the pact that has been designed to be mutually beneficial will spin off a win-win synergy for both organisations and the two countries.

The delegation to Turkey also included the Director General of Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Richard Masozera, Presidential Advisor, Prof. Manasseh Nshuti, and the entire RwandAir management team.

Meanwhile, later this week, RwandAir takes delivery of its first Boeing 737-800 with the first "Boeing Sky Interior” for the African continent.  It is due for delivery on Saturday August 27th.
