Editor,

I am writing to extend my appreciation to the government for its current

efforts to boost the informal cross border trade. Informal cross border trade  has, in the past, been neglected yet it contributes a lot to the economy

especially income generation.

The trade which involves goods that are not officially recorded, has seen agricultural products such as beans, maize sell across borders.

And, because the trade involves local people, it
helps create jobs which greatly contribute, to the socio-economic development of the
sorrounding community.

If more efforts were geared towards value addition and improving the
quality standards of our exports and negotiations to remove trade
barriers, I believe Rwanda’s export receipts would increase.

The government’s intervention that will see the construction of
border markets, improvement in logistics, expansion of markets for our
exports to central Africa and south Sudan will be a great step.
