NYAGATARE - Forty Health Councillors from various sectors in Nyagatare District received awards for their outstanding efforts in promoting health programs within their communities.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Global Fund.

According to the district’s Director of Health, Alex Rutikanga, the awards were a way of appreciating the role of the councillors in mobilising residents to adopt government programs.

"Health Councillors play a crucial role in promoting programs like family planning and many others. Those we have rewarded were the role models in the district,” he said.

According to Rutikanga, a number of achievements were registered as a result of the councillor’s efforts.

Theonila Nzasangamariya from Karangazi sector, one those recognised, said that the awards were proof that the government recognises the work they do.

"I never expected to be rewarded for my role in promoting health programs. I will now double my efforts,” she said.
