Editor,

THE Government’s plan to start a financial literacy campaign in schools throughout the country will, without doubt, help improve the savings culture in Rwanda and spur economic development.

Savings is a culture that if inculcated at an early stage, will instill a sense of financial discipline that is critical to ensuring good standards of living for individuals.

It’s important to note that a generation that saves, tends to value money, and become planners, traits that are key to doing business or managing successful enterprises.

People tend to believe that for one to save money, they must be big earners. However, this is not the case. Whatever one earns, the possibility of saving is always there. What matters most is prioritization.

Parents too should be sensitized about encouraging and teaching their children how to save.
