THE national women volleyball team fancies their chance of reaching the semi-final of the CAVB Women Africa Nations Championship after drawing Tunisia, Senegal, Botswana and Algeria in Pool B.

After avoiding African champions Kenya, two-time holders Egypt and the likes of Nigeria and Cameroon, Rwanda’s Coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva is optimistic.

"We avoided the tough group so we should have a good chance of at least reaching the semi-finals,” he said.

Rwanda, who open their campaign against Tunisia later today, have Algeria to worry about. The North Africans won the last edition and will open their title defence this afternoon against Senegal.

The one-week tournament is jointly being staged by Nazarene University and Brookhouse School and the winner automatically qualifies for next year’s London Olympic Games.

Kenya are regarded as the most successful nation on the continent after winning the title six times; 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2003, 2007.
