Ironman Rwanda 70.3 Triathlon race has been named as the best Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Athletes’ Choice Awards 2022.

The race, which was organised locally by Global Events under Ironman global franchise, took place in August 2022 in Rubavu and is part of a series of long distance triathlon races.

In an official press statement signed by Paul Atwine, the Marketing and Communications Director of Global Events, Ironman 70.3 Rwanda race was the best out of the 118 Ironman 70.3 series events that took place in 2022.

Results for the 2022 Global Athletes&039; Awards were gathered from surveys sent to all athletes who completed Ironman 70.3 races. Almost 65,000 survey feedback were received with the competition in Rwanda being judged the best.

Reacting on the prize, Global Events Africa Director, Bonita Mutoni, said, "I am thankful to Visit Rwanda and the District of Rubavu as well as our partners and sponsors making the inaugural race a success. My gratitude goes out to IRONMAN global for recognizing us with this award.”

"It is proof of our capacity to become a premiere destination for hosting international sports events in any of our host cities," she added.

The Ironman 70.3 Triathlon race which is followed by 21 million people on social media worldwide is one major avenue projecting sports tourism in Rwanda.

The 2023 Ironman Rwanda 70.3 race will take place in Rubavu on August 5.
