As such the word travelling implies moving from one place to another or undertaking a voyage.

In a broader sense it can be said that to travel is to reach a new place. Travelling in the ancient times was by foot or horseback or a bullock cart or something like that. It took days to weeks or months and even years to reach one’s destination.

Today, things have changed; with fast modes of transport, travelling has also become fast and one can reach another continent in a matter of days. No matter the mode and time of travel, it still remains the best guide to the world.

Sitting in classrooms, we read the geography of some places. But when we are there physically, the visual impression gives a better understanding of the regional geography.

Practically when one travels on a certain route, that route is memorized by heart. Similarly the details of the area are also remembered very well.

When a person sees the historical landscapes of that area and goes around in the local museums. He gathers more information about the local history than what is learnt in school or university lectures.

This knowledge gained is better stored in his memory as it has been acquired by first hand visual impression.

While travelling abroad, individuals get the opportunity to interact with people from a different cultural background and language.

He learns about their culture and traditions. I personally, enjoy travelling and have noticed the similarity among diverse human beings.

I have observed that in spite of superficial differences, basic human nature and values remain the same world over. Thus, the person who travels a lot learns to respect other people as his own.

Being in a foreign land also gives one an opportunity to pick up some words and greetings in a foreign language. If time is available, travelers can also learn the new language which is an addition to their skills.

Travelling has numerous advantages. Besides all these advantages, it provides change from a person’s monotonous life routine, which is very refreshing. Travelling has a way of renewing vitality and enthusiasm.

An old traveler has aptly said, "Travel in the world, till there is life, even if the life remains, there will be no youth remaining later.”

Thus, try to fix a journey as soon as convenient and visit as many new places as possible!
