THE national athletics federation (RAF) executive committee was yesterday dissolved after an extra-ordinary general assembly held under closed doors at Amahoro stadium.

According to a source close to the federation, the outgoing Board, led by Supt. Gerard Ntare, was sacked amid reports of mis-management.

Last month, RAF’s Secretary General Constantine Twajamahoro and Treasurer Nadine Muterinkindi were accused of embezzling Rwf 5m but a recent audit report cleared their names, suggesting that Ntare had his own agenda when he went public with the accusations.

After a lengthy meeting, the general assembly agreed to suspend the entire executive committee until new elections in two months’ time.

In the meantime, an interim committee led by Alexander Kayitsinga was set up to manage the federation’s activities.

Another commission was also set up to investigate Ntare over allegations that he was involved in internet fraud back in March which saw him spend Rwf600,000 from the federation’s coffers.

He is also in the spot light for diverting $3500 (about Rwf 2.1m) meant for athletes who took part in this year’s world cross country championship in Punta Umbria, into his own pockets.

Should he be found guilty, he will not be allowed to contest in the elections.
