Ngoma/Kirehe -The Governor of Eastern Province Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira has directed District Mayors to revamp their respective towns.

The Mayor of Ngoma district, Francois Ntiyotwagira who talked to The New Times yesterday, said that his district had embraced the directive.

Ntiyotwagira pointed out that the district had begun by planting trees in all suburbs of Kibungo town.

"We have directives to beautify our towns...this is important if we are to grow as big attractive towns. We shall pave pathways, grow grass and plant trees in a smart way, in our town and trading centres,” he stated.

The Mayor of Kirehe District, Protais Murayira, said that the greening process was already underway in all trading centres.

He said that the campaign started by sensitising residents.

"People have got to own the process, if we are to succeed in our campaign.

"The face of our main town of Nyakarambi has been completely transformed. Our district headquarters and the main guest house are exemplary. The gardens in those areas will be used as a case study ,” he said.

Jean Pierre Mbarushimana, a resident of Kibungo town, however, maintained that the process must be done in a more sustainable manner.

"Let authorities consult so that stakeholders give what they feel would beautify their towns. We should avoid a situation where trees and flowers are planted, only to be destroyed the day after,” he warned.
