Parliament plans to increase resources for research as a way of meeting the lawmakers’ targets to be achieved during the current mandate which comes to an end in two years’ time.

Deputy Speaker, Denis Polisi, Tuesday told journalists that efforts will be put into capacity building as well as in providing appropriate guidelines required to conduct research.

He said that the lawmakers’ and their support staff need to carry out more research to enable the MPs conduct legislative duties more efficiently.

"We have people in parliament who are in charge of research – we want to make sure that they have the required capacity to help us with our work,” Polisi said.

Augustin Habimana, Parliament’s Director General of Communications, told The New Times that there was a small budget in place and should the need arise they will improvise.

He disclosed that apart from Parliament’s ordinary budget framework, the project will tap from the House’s donors like the EU, ACBF, UNDP and the Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa, an NGO aligned to the EU Parliament.
