KIGALI - The City of Kigali is in the process of leasing the land formerly belonging to the headquarters of the national post office, IPOSITA, to investors as part of the implementation of the Kigali Master Plan.

The 1.1 hectare prime land in Kimihurura, Gasabo District, along the Airport Road, was handed over to city authorities by the government. Presently, there is an ongoing demolition exercise of the former Post Office facilities.

Speaking to The New Times, Bruno Rangira, the KCC Director of Communications and Media, said that a number of investors have expressed interest.

"Several investors have expressed an interest in acquiring the property but they have to first submit their preliminary project proposals and statements of their financial capacity to prove they are really in position to develop the land in line with the master plan,” Rangira said in an interview.

The land, according to the master plan, should have commercial and residential facilities.

"We decided to clear the site to facilitate any investor who might acquire it. There have been some problems relocating people in some places where land was given to investors, which, at times, prolonged the investment process,” he added.

Meanwhile, The Post Office has relocated to the former Ministry of Health premises in Muhima, Nyarugenge District.
