FORTY SIX referees, assistant referees and instructors are undergoing a one-week MA Referees’ course aimed at improving the quality of football. MA is Members’ Association.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ferwafa boss Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura urged participants to take the lessons seriously so as to improve on their profession.

"This course is good because it has come at the right time before the league starts. I believe what will be taught here will help in the development of the level of refereeing in our leagues.”

Kazura thanked Fifa and Caf instructors for their support extended to Rwandan referees with an aim of improving the country’s football standards.

The course will be managed by the Fifa regional development officer Alain Mungwenge from Gabon, Fifa’s technical instructor Remy Dawili (RDC), Fifa’s Physical instructor Augustin Ndjoya from Cameroon and Caf’s technical instructor Bernard Mfubusa from Burundi.

In his remarks, Mungwenge said outlined some of the necessary changes that have to be implemented.

He stated "FIFA has made it mandatory that the Associations form a Referees Committee, the committee will be a part of the Association.”

He also said that referees are always needed to be abreast with the rules of the game and also be physical fit as they are always under scrutiny.

In this MA (member of Association) course referees will be required to improve on their interpretation and application of the rules.

The course will also focus on three key elements, Technique, Interpretation and the Psychological.

The quartet will be assisted by local team of instructors led by Gaspard Kayijuka; Caf zonal referees Officer Celestin Ntagungira, Athanase Nkubito, Aaron Rurangirwa and Michel Gasingwa.
