KICUKIRO - Residents of Indatwa village, Nyarugunga Sector in Kicukiro district, yesterday came together in celebrations to mark the progress registered in the area.

In an event held at ESSE Nyarugunga secondary school, some of the residents who spoke to The New Times attributed the achievements to commitment.

"In 2009, our village was ranked among the fifth best performers in the Sector, but last year, we moved to the 3rd place and we are now working even harder so that we take first place,” said Theoneste Njangwe, a resident in the area.

He explained that a lot has been achieved through team work and resident`s commitment in supporting government development programs.

"Umuganda, (a monthly community work) has helped us a lot in dealing or actively contributing towards development in the area,” he said.

Another resident, Goretti Uwimana, noted that among other activities, residents have been supportive in the construction of Groupe Scolaire Camp Kanombe and putting up feeder roads in the village.

"We decided that each family contribute Rwf 2,000 per month, to facilitate our local security team which has greatly contributed to the safety of our village,” Uwimana said.

The head of the village, Immaculee Kobusingye, commended residents for their dedication and encouraged them to aim even higher.

"As we meet, it’s also an opportunity to discuss and consult each other on the way forward so as to set our next step,” Kobusingye said.Indatwa village comprises of 273 families with a population of 1,053 residents.
