Pugilists start Maputo preps

RWANDA’s pugilists entered residential training yesterday at Hotel Tech in preparation for next month’s All Africa Games to be held in Maputo, Mozambique. The team, which is being handled by Gashugi Kananura, includes middle weight (75kg) Vincent Nsengiyumva, light weight (64kg) Theoneste Gakunzi, feather-weight (66kg) Salim Kwizera and Bantam weight (54kg) David Nsabimana.

RWANDA’s pugilists entered residential training yesterday at Hotel Tech in preparation for next month’s All Africa Games to be held in Maputo, Mozambique.

The team, which is being handled by Gashugi Kananura, includes middle weight (75kg) Vincent Nsengiyumva, light weight (64kg) Theoneste Gakunzi, feather-weight (66kg) Salim Kwizera and Bantam weight (54kg) David Nsabimana.

Emmanuel Ntare, Matusi Haziza, Siraha and Eric Ngabo are all on stand-by.

The pugilists are expected to use the Games as a plat form to qualify for next year’s London Olympic Games. Besides boxing, Rwanda will also compete in basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, athletics, tennis, table tennis, karate, swimming, cycling and sport for the disabled.

In the last edition held in Algiers in 2007, Dieudonne Disi came closest to winning a medal when he finished fourth in the half marathon.
