A woman is admitted at Gisenyi Hospital after sustaining injuries allegedly inflicted by her husband.

Claudine Nyirarukundo, who has been married to Florient Sebuhinzi for four years, was allegedly accused by her spouse of committing adultery.

The childless couple that resides in Nyamyumba Sector, Rubavu District, had, according to neighbours, quarrelled several times in the past.

The climax of the acrimonious marriage left Nyirarukundo with several deep cuts on her head, legs and arms.

"We have been cohabiting for four years but for the last eight months, we had separated because he accused me of being barren,” Nyirarukundo told The New Times from her hospital bed.

The victim denies infidelity and says she has not been seeing any man during the time they cohabited or after separating.

Nyirarukundo alleges her husband attempted to kill her several times. She alleges that he once thumped her head with a hoe before knocking her down while riding on a motorcycle.

The local leadership says there has been misunderstanding between the couple as well as accusations and counter accusations of adultery.

"They always fought and we understand they had separate beds,” said Gratient Murangwa, the official in charge of security in Rubona cell.

He said that besides family conflicts, Sebuhinzi was a good resident who related well with neighbours.
