Employees of Access Bank visited an association of over 400 orphans in Kimironko Sector and donated an assortment of food items worth Rwf 3 million. They included sugar, rice, maize flour and cooking oil.

Speaking on behalf of the bank, Francois Hategeka, the Loans Recovery Manager at the bank, said the initiative was one of the company`s strategy to reach-out to the community.

"It’s out of determination that your dreams will come true, but most important is to take action now,” Hategeka said.

He encouraged the orphans to work hard so as to improve their lives and support others as well.

The bank also promised to facilitate the association to source for more funds to support the orphans and their activities.  

Grouped in 80 families under their umbrella association ‘Tubeho’, the orphans lost their parents during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

On behalf of the rest of the orphans, the vice president of the association, Innocent Micomyiza, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying that their relationship with Access Bank is a great opportunity for the development of the association.

"They promised to help us in implementing our plans which include putting in place income generating activities that will enable us sustain ourselves economically,” Micomyiza noted.

He explained that the association plans to start an internet café, library and a wedding and decoration enterprise.
