He finished a distant 35th, coming two laps after two-time gold medalist Julien Absalon of France. Absalon raced home in one hour, 31 minutes and 48 seconds.

Switzerland’s Christopher Sauser finished second while Karl Markt from Austria settled for third place.
The organizers were testing the 5km route which will stage the mountain bike race.
With less than a year to the Olympics, Niyonshuti remains the only Rwandan to qualify for the event.
The 24-year old qualified early this year after impressing in the UCI Africa Continental Cross Country Mountain Bike Championship in Jonkershoek, Cape Town, South Africa.
Niyonshuti will also compete in next month’s All Africa Games due in Maputo, Mozambique from September 3-27.
