The arrival of more than 200 former Rwandan refugees who voluntarily returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, is yet another sign that the government’s program to have all Rwandan refugees living in other countries return home is bearing fruit.
Three years ago, I returned from exile. I am now happily living in my country alongside my relatives and friends without any trouble. As the axiom goes, East or West, home is best.
Of course, when you are in exile, you hear many bad stories about the country and these stories are untrue. Negative stories are propagated by disgruntled politicians who left Rwanda after committing various crimes.
Rwanda has made a lot of progress in all areas while the current leadership has united Rwandans more than ever before. There is no reason why Rwandans should remain in exile.
It is also gratifying to hear returnees speak of the warm hospitality they receive from compatriots upon their return home.
