Editor,

It was so nice to see two Heads of State, Rwanda's President Paul Kagame and Uganda's President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni join Kanombe residents in Umuganda.

Umuganda instills a strong feeling of togetherness in the community and inculcates in one and all a deep sense of belonging. It also encourages everyone to strive in keeping the city and surroundings neat and clean.

It was also interesting to read in your newspaper that the two First Ladies, Jeannette Kagame and Janet Museveni also took part in this community service, sending a message to all on the importance of this uniquely Rwandan cultural norm.

It is not a surprise, therefore, that Rwanda is referred to as the "Singapore "of Africa. I believe Rwandans ought to offer lessons to other African leaders on Umuganda.
