The Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza, will today appear before a joint parliamentary session to present the government’s quarterly report on trade, commerce and progress in doing business in Rwanda.

The premier’s appearance before Senators and Deputies is a constitutional prerequisite that mandates him to present government’s achievements and plans every three months.

"This will be the second time for the Prime Minister to present a quarterly report to parliament since the amendment of the Constitution. Our role is to make follow-up as usual,” said Deputy Speaker, Dr Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo.

The Director General in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ignatius Kabagambe, told this newspaper that some of the key highlights in Makuza’s presentation will include the progress on the East African Common Market Protocol and the capital market performance.

He added that although the report may highlight a few challenges and their possible solutions, the biggest part of it lists the progress made in terms of economic development.

The last report the head of government business presented was on how different government’s programmes such as crop intensification and land consolidation programmes had impacted improved the general agricultural output.
