GATSIBO - A 24-year-old man is detained at Remera Police station in Remera sector, Gatsibo District for allegedly killing his mother.

According to Police, the suspect, only identified as Tuyisenge, used a hoe to killhis mother.

"He hacked his mother several times in the head and killed her. We are still carrying out investigations to ascertain the motive of the incidence,” a police officer at Gatsibo Police Post said.

Speaking to The New Times, the suspect’s father, Modeste Hitamungu said that his son committed the crime after suffering from a mental disorder.

"He was working in Nyagatare District but returned home last week after suffering from mental problems. We tried to take him to the hospital but to no avail,” he said.
