Movies greatly influence those who watch them.

Films are a rollercoaster ride that transcends people into a whole different world fresh out of somebody’s imagination, as seen through the genres of horror, drama, and science fiction.

The movie business has allowed people to break through the burden of everyday life. Some films have created big physical and emotional burdens to the actors and actresses.

In the first place, people watch movies just for entertainment, and many choose funny movies which usually have little serious meaning, but can really make people laugh and forget those annoying things.

However, some movie genres characterized by war, violence and fear sometimes corrupt and manipulate the youth without them even knowing it.

Nina Mutesi, (23) a Student at the School of Finance and Banking says that horror movies are among the most disturbing and unrealistic movies out there.

"Why people are drawn to these movies is questionable and confusing. I don’t know why people are haggard when they watch these movies. I personally don’t like watching horror films,” she adds.

She says Comedy and Drama movies allow her to break the burden of work and stress after spending the whole day at work and school respectively.

Robert Niyonsenga (35), Information Communication Technology Specialist acknowledges that films have a great impact on people most especially, on children.

"Children’s minds are negatively affected by watching films that portray the dark side of life with the primary aim of frightening and terrifying its audience such as horrifying images such as vampires and werewolves, demonic possessions, evil children, cannibals and zombies, alien invasion among others,” he says.

Niyonsenga asserts that horror filmmakers create a world where the worst nightmares become true and these factors are what drive people to watch these movies because of the intense rush and out of curiosity.

Not all movies are negative; there are others which are educative and inspire people in their everyday life. For example; watching funny movies is a popular way to relax and heal.

Movies that teach something about real life are worth watching. It is helpful for young people to establish some value of life while watching them. People are more likely to learn things about real life from books and real experiences of themselves or other acquaintances.
