Police arrests suspect in grenade scare

MUHANGA- Police in Nyamabuye has arrested a man who allegedly threw a hand grenade in a bar in Shyogwe sector on Monday. The grenade never exploded,  Police said that Dominique Nyandwi, 32, a demobilised soldier, will be charged with attempted murder and possession of illegal weapons.

MUHANGA- Police in Nyamabuye has arrested a man who allegedly threw a hand grenade in a bar in Shyogwe sector on Monday.

The grenade never exploded,

Police said that Dominique Nyandwi, 32, a demobilised soldier, will be charged with attempted murder and possession of illegal weapons.

According to Police, Nyandwi said that the motive was not to kill but frighten the bar revelers who allegedly wooed his concubine, Anna Marie Muteteri.

Police spokesman, Theos Badege said that everyone was encouraged to handover all illegal arms ahead of the set deadline.

 "It’s illegal to possess arms and residents should hand over any other arms in their possession. These arms are a great danger to peace, create insecurity and increase criminal activities,” Badege said.

A law penalizing those found guilty of possession of illegal arms was recently passed.
