LEAGUE champions, APR are leaving nothing to chance as they bid for a record 13th league title by starting pre-season training a month before the start of the new season.

Although the national football federation, Ferwafa have not yet confirmed the exact date for the start of the 2011/12 Primus league season, the league is expected at the end of September.

Despite winning a double last season of league and Peace cup, the military side was mediocre in regional and continental competitions after being eliminated from the Orange African champions’ league and Cecafa/Kagame Cup in the first round.

The military side has been on spending spree in order to conquer the regional and also improve on continental level after bringing three Ugandan players including Dan Wagaluka, Habib Kavuma and James Odoch, who is returning to the for the a second spell.

The club has also been strongly linked with former players Jimmy Mulisa, Olivier Karekezi and Bokungu Ndjori as well as Burundian international Fatty Papy.

Secretary General Adolphe Kalisa yesterday told this paper that the club will officially confirm their new signings next week.

"We are planning to play two friendly matches with foreign teams but we haven’t established them yet. One match will be played in Kigali, while the other will take place in another country,” Kalisa said.
