Kigali based, School of Finance and Banking (SFB) will no longer offer Marketing and Human Resources Management (HRM) as core courses.

This was disclosed by the institution’s Rector, Dr. Reid Whitlock, who said that the administration made the decision after a cabinet directive in May 2011.

"The cabinet decided that we stop teaching Marketing and HRM as independent courses, because they are not related to our core mission - Finance and Banking.”

He said that the two will be taught as subjects in the general curriculum, but not taken as independent departments.

Whitlock further disclosed that the two have been replaced with Banking and Insurance and Actuarial Sciences, the latter which is linked to Finance.

The Rector, however, clarified that students who had already started their first academic year with the intention of majoring in either HRM or Marketing, would not be affected.

"We will implement the decision starting with those who will be admitted in the next academic year. We must fulfill our promises to the current students and let them graduate as the last classes in the departments before they are phased out.”

He refuted earlier claims that students studying the two courses would be transferred to National University of Rwanda (NUR), saying that there is no such arrangement.
