Renowned US Pastor Rick Warren’s missionary work in Rwanda has now been extended to law enforcement.

Four police experts from Warren’s Saddleback Church in California, US, have since March 6 been training 50 Rwandan police officers in Kigali on how to better deal with various crimes such as gender-based violence, and how to provide counseling.

According to Deputy Director of Training in Rwanda National Police (RNP), Superintendent Pascal Nkurikiyimfura, the training covers such issues as road safety, criminal investigation and clinical psychology.

He said that the trainees include 20 officers from the traffic department, 15 from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and fifteen from the force’s medical section. "We will gain much from the training since it is being facilitated by experts in the field. It will equip us with more skills on how to handle such cases,” Nkurikiyimfura said of the training which was scheduled to end today.

The training is part of Warren’s PEACE programmes in Rwanda which range from gospel, charity to proffessional assistance.

Launched from Rwanda over two years ago by President Paul Kagame and Pastor Warren, PEACE Plan is a worldwide massive project to mobilize one billion Christians into an outreach effort to attack what the American preacher considers as the five main global, evil giants of the day. 

These evils are spiritual emptiness, corrupt leadership, poverty, disease and illiteracy.
