Kenyan dies in road accident

MUHANGA-A Kenyan national identified as Geoffrey Kiama, died instantly, Thursday evening, after a cargo truck he was travelling in overturned at Kivumu junction on the Kigali- Butare highway.The accident occurred when the trailer, Reg.No. KAB 957/ ZA 269, lost control and veered off the road before it overturned.

MUHANGA-A Kenyan national identified as Geoffrey Kiama, died instantly, Thursday evening, after a cargo truck he was travelling in overturned at Kivumu junction on the Kigali- Butare highway.

The accident occurred when the trailer, Reg.No. KAB 957/ ZA 269, lost control and veered off the road before it overturned.

"The trailer lost control before it crashed. The deceased tried to jump out and he was hit by flying debris from the truck,” Amina Mukandayisenga, an eyewitness, said.

The driver, Kevin Shazima 24, was trapped in the wreckage for over two hours as curious onlookers appeared helpless.

However, he was later rescued by residents led by Venuste Nshyimiyimana, who cut through the wreckage.

Security officials and ambulances arrived at the scene moments later and transferred the victims to Kabgayi Hospital.

Local officials said the deceased would be buried in Gitarama as soon as his family is notified.

Another Kenyan Somali national identified as Abdi Saleh Jesse, also died instantly on March 17, after a petroleum tanker overturned at Rugeramigozi marshlands in Nyamabuye Sector, Muhanga District.
