MTN’s Rugege to head regional ITU office

MTN Rwanda’s Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Rugege has been appointed as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Director for Africa.Rugege who has served with MTN Rwanda for five years takes up his new post on August 15, this year.

MTN Rwanda’s Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Rugege has been appointed as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Director for Africa.

Rugege who has served with MTN Rwanda for five years takes up his new post on August 15, this year.

He will be based in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

MTN Rwanda’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Khaled Mikkawi, said ITU has made an excellent choice for the position.

"It is very flattering when one of your own is appointed to high office, Andrew is a very meticulous hard worker who has great interpersonal skills, he shall be missed,” Mikkawi said.

During his tenure at MTN, Rugege oversaw the consolidation of the Sales and Marketing division, extension of the customer service centres, the launch of world class data products and the mobile money platform.

Rugege welcomed the new post saying he received the news with excitement.

"I am looking forward to new challenges in the new job. This is an opportunity to contribute not only to Rwanda but to the whole continent in terms ICT and other inspiring features,” Rugege said.

He added that MTN was an exciting company to work for. He observed that he would always have fond memories of his time at the telecom firm.
