Editor,

I read with awe the news in your paper that Member of Parliament (MP) Alexandre Dumas Ashinzwuwera has been expelled from the house for misconduct. He is reported to have fought police investigators who were looking into his case.

Just a few months ago, the same MP was reprimanded for beating up his young brother. As if he had not learnt from his first mistake, he went ahead to obstruct police investigations.

This is the last thing you would expect from someone supposed to protect the same laws he helped to enact.

It is indeed shocking to learn that a representative of the masses in the honourable House would misbehave as he did.

Leaders are supposed to lead by example and be role models to our children who are aspiring to become future leaders.

I, therefore, think that the decision by the House to expel Ashinzwuwera was timely and should serve as a lesson to other leaders. Power corrupts-sometimes leaders become arrogant because of their power and authority.

But remember all leaders are answerable to the people that elect them.
