Hoops to camp in France ahead of Afrobasket

THE men’s national basketball team will have a two-week training stint in France before heading to Madagascar for the 26th FIBA Africa Championship from August 17-28. According to the head of Rwanda’s basketball federation Eric Kalisa Ssalongo, the team leaves on July 30 through to August 15.

THE men’s national basketball team will have a two-week training stint in France before heading to Madagascar for the 26th FIBA Africa Championship from August 17-28.

According to the head of Rwanda’s basketball federation Eric Kalisa Ssalongo, the team leaves on July 30 through to August 15.

"The aim of the camp is to help players get exposure as they play friendlies against some of Europe’s top clubs,” Kalisa said.

The team, which is under the tutelage of Vaceslav Kavedzija, is currently training at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. Their female counterparts are being handled by Nedad Amanovic.

In Madagascar, Rwanda will contend with defending champions Angola, Tunisia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Togo, Senegal, Mali, Morocco, Central African Republic, Chad, Mozambique, Ivory Coast, Egypt and South Africa.

From Madagascar, the team will head straight to Maputo for the All Africa Games from September 3-18.

The women team will use the All Africa Games as a preparation ground for Women Afrobasket championship due in Mali from September 23-28.
