Disi resumes training

RWANDA’s veteran athlete Dieudonne Disi has resumed training after recovering from a nagging hamstring injury which had sidelined him for nearly ten months.

Disi is currently training in the high altitude areas of Musanze, Northern Province.

"It’s been a long time coming and I hope the hamstring injury is behind me. For now, I’m trying to regain my fitness,” he said.

Disi, who doubles as the vice president of the local athletics federation, has set his eyes on three races; Aviva London Grand prix set for August 5-6, Welkassee Zurich meeting in Switzerland scheduled for September 8 and Belgacom Memorial Van Damme due in Belgium on September 16.

The 10,000m national record holder will use the events to prepare for the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon on October 23 and Marseille Cassis Classique marathon seven days later.

Two years ago, Disi dominated headlines after winning the 31st edition of the Marseille-Cassis ‘Classique Internationale’ race in a time of 1:00:21.

In 2007, he clocked 1:00:43 to win the Delhi half marathon.Last year, Disi endured a torrid run due to his hamstring injury.
