GICUMBI - Police in Gicumbi Thursday arrested three men for allegedly destroying a house belonging to a local resident, suspected to be a whistleblower

Jean Marie Vianne Bisanukuri, Evereste Kanyarwanda and another only identified as Ngirente, destroyed Pismas Mironko’s house, accusing him of tipping local authorities about their illicit liquor trade.

The trio are said to be major illicit liquor dealers in the area, according to Eugene Nzabanterura, the area Executive Secretary.

Innocent Habimana, one of the residents said Mironko, whose house was destroyed was branded an enemy after he had often exposed their trade.

"They wanted him out of this area because he always revealed their practices. It happened at time when he was going to take the matter to the authorities,” he said.

The suspects denied the allegations.

At a community meeting, local leaders and Police called on the residents to always report such cases to the concerned authorities as a way of ensuring security.
