Man in custody for rape, murder of sister-in-law

BUGESERA - Police in Bugesera District arrested a man suspected of raping and killing his sister in-law.

Ephraim Dusengumuremyi was arrested, Thursday, after it emerged that he was behind the murder of Annonciata Mukahirwa, whose brother was married to the suspect’s sister.

It is alleged that Dusengumuremyi, on Tuesday evening, attacked Mukahirwa on her way home after  delivering her own wedding invitations.

It is alleged that he repeatedly raped her before hacking her to death and chopping her arm off with a machete.

The deceased’s body was discovered by neighbours the following day.

Dusengumuremyi confessed to killing her, but denied the rape allegations.

He said he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the offence.

The deceased, Dusengumuremyi said, hurled insults at him which angered him.
 
Police spokesperson, Supt. Theos Badege lamented the incident, calling in inhumane.

"People like him have no place in the Rwandan society,” Badege said.

He called on public to avoid excessive drinking.If convicted, he faces life imprisonment.
