Police to participate in asbestos disposal

GASABO - 50 police officers attended a one-day training of trainers on how best to dispose Asbestos, at the Kacyiru Police Headquarters.The training was organized by the Rwanda National Police in partnership with Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA).The training is in line with the 2009 cabinet recommendation that undertook studies concerning the harmful effects of Asbestos.

GASABO - 50 police officers attended a one-day training of trainers on how best to dispose Asbestos, at the Kacyiru Police Headquarters.

The training was organized by the Rwanda National Police in partnership with Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA).

The training is in line with the 2009 cabinet recommendation that undertook studies concerning the harmful effects of Asbestos.

Officiating at the training, the Commissioner for Human Resource Management and Support Services, ACP John Bosco Kabera, said that Rwanda National Police has taken the lead in partnership with other stakeholders to eradicate asbestos.

"I hope that at the end of this workshop, you will have gained enough knowledge and skills to enable you to accomplish this noble task of protecting Rwandans,” Kabera said.

Toshikazu Mito an environmental consultant said that dust from Asbestos causes lung cancer and several other respiratory diseases. 

During the training, participants were showed how remove asbestos without inhaling dust from the hazardous roofing material.

Clement Gafishi, the coordinator of Rwanda Housing Authority said that, they chose to work closely with Rwanda National Police because of its involvement in government programs.

Other institutions like RDF, Hospitals, and Schools shall be trained on Asbestos disposal.
