Private Sector Federation is set to boost businesses through the construction of a trade and exhibition centre.

The centre, according to Dr. Wolf-Dietrich Muller, Senior- executive and Chief Strategy Officer Messe Munchen international, is the first of its kind in the Great Lakes region and will match international standards.

"This trade and conventional centre indicates the development of the country and regional economy. Companies from abroad will get a chance to sell their products which will attract taxes,” he said, noting that new products will also see their entrance into the Rwandan market.

Muller further noted that the exhibition centre is a ‘special big market’ that will expose Rwanda’s companies and businesses to wider markets thus increasing their turnover which in turn will increase

employment opportunities.

PSF, which is the principal owner of the project partnered with Messe Munchen International, the world’s leading organisers of trade fairs, Euro Asia Consulting and special solutions to carry out a feasibility study, design and construction of the centre.

Munyampenda said that the centre would be located in Nyanza, Kicukiro District. The current exhibition ground at Gikondo is according to industrialists small, inefficient and poorly located

and does not attract buyers to exhibited products.

Rwanda’s environment regulator- REMA has been locking horns with the Private sector with the regulator arguing that the location of the ground hampers the environment.

He said that in two weeks, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between PSF and the partners to seek for ways to fund the project.

"We are now going to start with feasibility studies and consulting stakeholders,” Rogers Munyampenda, PSF’s Chief Executive Officer said yesterday, during the official kick off of the project at Des Mille

Collines on Wednesday.

Muller is optimistic that the government’s decision to reinforce investment and doing business strategies will benefit the country and transform it into a middle income nation, adding that strategies

enshrined in the Vision2020 are economically worthwhile.

Professor Roland Dieterle the Architect BDA AND CEO Special solutions who did the architectural designs said that the center is designed inconformity with Rwanda’s environment and needs which makes it a ‘special’ project in Africa.
