The word friend is commonly misused and the saddest part about it is that we only realize this after who we thought was a friend turns out to be the enemy from hell itself. Only a false friend can do something so wretched behind your back and not feel the slightest bit of guilt because they don’t even have the decency to do it to your face.

True friends are not afraid of telling you when you are wrong or why they think you should change your lifestyle. Much as it is annoying, it is what real friends do and in the end, you’ll realize you owe them a lot for annoying you that way because it actually helped.
That is why I say true friends stab you in the front. They are honest with you no matter how painful that honesty can be. The problem here is that we often think they are just butting their noses where they don’t belong and instead tell them to sod off.
Bad friends however keep telling you what you want to hear however ludicrous it might be. They are the ones who let you make a fool of yourself in public and later assure you how it is okay to behave like that. They let you get out of the house wearing an outfit that doesn’t flatter you in the least insisting that you have never looked better.
A true friend will however tell you that the dress is nice but it just doesn’t work for you. And in most cases, it is true only that we think they are saying that because they are jealous. This same friend will also not shy away from telling you that the man you love to bits is a two timing cheat who literally runs after anything that has breasts and the other thing I won’t mention.
Miss backstabber however will probably be the one sleeping with the guy. And even though she was by your side every time you had a fight with him, when the day arrives, she will walk right past you holding your man’s arm with a smug look on her face as if saying ‘you lost, sorry!’
Then you realize the snake you’ve been calling a friend all that time and wonder what you ever did for her to betray you that way. The truth of the matter is bad friends are something we are going to have to expect from time to time and sadly we only get to know that after the damage has been done.
The good thing however is that unless you are completely blind, you can always see a little problem in someone and walk away before the little problem becomes mammoth. For example, anyone who hasn’t influenced you positively not even once is clearly not worth having around.
What good is a friend who only comes around when you have money on you and then vanishes faster than the loot does? What good is a friend whose only job is to pimp you off to random guys some of whom she hasn’t the faintest idea about? You go with her to a party, only for her to run off and leave you in the company of strange men.
Then (God forbid) when trouble should arise and something awful happens to you, she is capable of swearing on her life and the lives of her family that she has never seen you before in her life! These things you just have to see them coming sometimes. A bad friend has cracks, do not ignore them, they could just save you.
Real friends stick with you at all times, and I mean all times. And they don’t expect anything in return other than the thought of having you do the same for them. Like one of favorite quotes goes, ‘true friendship never ends for if it ends it is only because it never existed’.
