Football legends in Rwanda

African football stars led by Didier Drogba, the all-time top scorer and former captain of the Ivory Coast national team, and Brazilian legend Marcos Evangelista de Morais ‘Cafu,’ a former professional footballer who played as a right-back, will attend the Outstanding Achievement Award 2022 in Kigali on Tuesday, March 14.

The former football players are set to join other football legends and are expected to attend the glamorous awarding ceremony of the Outstanding Achievement Award 2022. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will present the award to individuals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the development of sports in 2022.

On Tuesday, CAF President Patrice Motsepe will, among others, confer the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2022 to President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and King Mohammed V1 of Morocco.

Global football stars include international legends, African stars, and football leaders.

Besides Drogba and Cafu, other stars expected to grace the event include Nigeria’s Ayegbeni Yakubu, the Black Star’s Asamoah Gyan, DR Congo’s Herita Ilunga, Indomitable Lion’s Pierre Webo, former English international Wes Brown, former South Africa captain Lucas Radebe, Ghana’s Kwadwo Asamoah and Nigeria’s Super Falcons legend Perpetua Nkwocha.

Others are Cameroonian legend in women’s football, Gaelle Enganamouit, South African record-breaking women's footballer, Portia Modise, her compatriot Amanda Dlamini, Senegal’s Khalilou Fadiga, and former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger.

The event will also be attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the CAF Executive Committee, and CAF Member Association Presidents.

The event will be held on Tuesday starting at 18h00 local time (16h00 GMT).

Meanwhile, the highly-anticipated 73rd FIFA Congress will convene in Kigali on Thursday, March 16, at BK Arena, bringing together about 2,000 delegates from 211-member associations across the globe.
