Rwanda names FINA World Championship team

RWANDA will be represented by four swimmers at the 14th FINA World Championships set for July 16-31 at Shanghai Oriental Sports Centre, China. The quartet includes Karongi’s Zenith duo of Jackson Niyomugabo and Patrick Rukundo and Europe’s based pair of Johanna Umurungi and Alphonsine Agahozo.

RWANDA will be represented by four swimmers at the 14th FINA World Championships set for July 16-31 at Shanghai Oriental Sports Centre, China.

The quartet includes Karongi’s Zenith duo of Jackson Niyomugabo and Patrick Rukundo and Europe’s based pair of Johanna Umurungi and Alphonsine Agahozo.

According to the local swimming federation boss Samuel Kinimba Ufitimana, the athletes were selected based on their performances in last month’s national championships held at La Palisse. The event had attracted contestants from Riviera, Les Gramma, Cool water, town swimming club, National University of Rwanda, Green hills, Rwanda National Bank, Anagi, beach boys, association Jeunnesse nouvelle de Gisenyi, Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare, Cercle Sportif, Zenith, Muhazi, Rusizi, Ape Rugunga, SFB, Kicukiro Sanitas, Rilima youngsters, and Serena hotel.

The team is being coached by Joshua Neuloh and Nicolas Dusine.

The 2011 Worlds will feature five aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming. Portions of these championships will most likely serve as qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
