NGORORERO – Fina Bank has pledged to widen loan opportunities for the Kabaya sector business community in Ngororero district.

Innocent Murwanashyaka, the Muhanga bank branch manager explained the bank has picked interest in the area for its booming business activity.

"We want to support the traders to access loans to boost their business activities. In future, there are plans to open a counter to reach the clients,” Murwanashyaka said.

The area has potential business opportunities ranging from tea growing and wheat production.Ngororero is also seen as a pivot centre for trade across Musanze, Rubavu and Muhanga districts.

Many residents attended the sensitization program held at Kabaya market yesterday.

The bank officials explained the existing loan opportunities and accounts favourable for savings as well as business activities.

Residents said that the outreach was timely and opened new accounts with the bank.

"We needed such opportunity to boost our businesses which have been slowed due to lack of access to commercial bank loans”, said Hajj Hassan Ntawuruhunga, an area tycoon said.

The Executive Secretary of Kabaya sector, Patrick Uwihoreye, said that despite the existence of microfinance schemes in the area, commercial banks were needed to explore the business potential in the region.

Residents also asked Fina bank officials to open a branch in the area so as to reduce costs incurred while travelling to other districts for banking services.

They also asked for more education on functions and operations of commercial banks so as to increase the participation of rural traders into formal banking system.
