KIMIHURURA - Hundreds of mourners, among them, friends and relatives, lawmakers and politicians, yesterday morning, thronged the Parliament buildings to pay their last respects to MP Aimable Nibishaka who died Monday.
Nibishaka's white casket arrived at parliament at 10:30 a.m., in a black van and was then carried by police pall-bearers through a guard of honour mounted by police and members of both chambers of Parliament.
President Paul Kagame, in a condolence message delivered by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, hailed the deceased MP as a man of honour who served his country with commitment and dignity. He said the country had lost a great lawmaker who had contributed immensely to the development of the country.
"He was a patriot; we have lost a hero, a friend and a parent," read the condolence message from the President.
Delivering the eulogy, Francois Ngarambe, the Secretary General of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) which the late Nibishaka was affiliated to, said that he died at a time when his country needed him most.
"He fervently worked in the interest of his country since the liberation struggle started to the time he passed on. His unlimited commitment was the basis for the RPF to assign him in Parliament where he continued serving his nation relentlessly," Ngarambe said.
"He was a person of integrity; we have lost a friend, a colleague, a relative and a father.”
In his message to the bereaved family, the president of the Senate, Dr. Vincent Biruta, said that the gap he left in his family can never be filled. He requested family members to be strong during these hardest times.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rose Mukantabana, affirmed Nibishaka's hardworking spirit.
"It is sad that we can’t have one last chance to talk to him, his death came as shocking news to us," Mukantabana said.
She added that Nibishaka left a heritage characterised by integrity, hardwork and commitment to everything he worked on.
Nibishaka was born on July 07, 1942 in Burera District.He was buried yesterday afternoon at Kigali’s Remera Cemetery.
